Last weekend I tried out the Aerobatic Stunt Flying experience day, available at Red Letter Days here.

And what a day it was!

We arrived at Redhill in the morning, took a cab to the aerodrome which is about 5-10 mins away from the station. When we got there I filled out the necessary forms, and we were greeted by Andrew my pilot for the day who gave a quick briefing as to what was ahead.

We climbed into a Cessna High performance Aerobatic plane, which looked like a stripped out sports car in order to keep the plane light.

After a few minutes, we were in the air and climbing fast. Once we were away from the aerodrome, I got to fly the plane a bit which and was surprised at how sensitive the controls are, and how easily the plane can change direction.

And this is where the fun began! Andrew took the controls and ran me through his repertoire of stunts:
-Loop the loops
-Barrel Rolls
-Stalls, with rolls
-Cuban 8′s
-Reverse Cuban figure of 8′s

Each move was executed flawlessly, and was smooth as butter. I must admit I have never felt such a rush, and such pressure as when we were pulling 2-3G’s in these loops. Especially when we were chaining different moves together such as a Loop followed by a Barrel Roll!!

The experience lasted around 30 minutes from starting the engine to landing, and I can’t wait to have a go again!

The Freestyle Aerobatics Experience with Alan Cassidy is a fabulous event that allows you to enjoy a 20-minute acrobatic flight with the British Aerobatic Champion of 1998, 1999 and 2001. The experience with an ultimate stunt trained pilot is something you' re sure to never forget. The flight takes place at the Pitts Special, a location that has won more aerobatic contests than any other aircraft type. Upon arrival, you' ll receive your free flying club membership, which is necessary to be covered by insurance,followed by a quick briefing. Ultimate Top Gun (Saturdays)
Make the most of a free Saturday with the Ultimate Top Gun Experience.
